왜일까요? 대화 대신 곤봉을 휘둘러도 언어는 항상 그 힘을 가지고, 의미를 전달하여,
들으려 하는 자에게 명확한 진실을 알립니다. 그 진실이란 이 나라가 단단히 잘못됐단 겁니다.
잔악함, 부정, 편협함, 탄압이 만연하고, 한때는 생각한대로 비판하고, 본대로 말할 자유가 있었지만
이제는 검열과 감시 속에서 순응이 복종이 강요됩니다.
어쩌다 이렇게 됐죠? 누구 잘못입니까?
물론, 가장 큰 책임을 가진자들은 대가를 치루게 될겁니다.
그러나 진실을 말하자면, 당신이 죄인을 찾는다면 단지 거울 속을 들여다보면 됩니다.
압니다 당신이 왜 그랬는지. 두려웠던 거죠.
누군들 아니겠습니까? 전쟁, 테러, 질병.
무수히 많은 문제들이 조작되어져서 여러분의 이성을 타락하게 하고 상식을 앗아갔습니다.
두려움에 굴복당한 당신들은 서틀러 의장에게 기댔습니다.
그는 질서와 평화를 약속하며, 침묵과 절대복종을 요구했지요.
지난밤, 난 이 침묵을 깨려했습니다. 지난밤 나는 법원을 파괴해 이 나라에 잊혀진 가치를 일깨웠죠.
400여 년 전 한 위대한 시민이 11월 5일을 우리 뇌리에 영원히 각인시키고자 했습니다.
그는 세상 사람들에게 공평함, 정의, 자유가 단순한 단어 이상이라는 것을 일깨워주려 했습니다.
공평함, 정의, 자유는 우리가 무언가에 대해 느끼는 감정과 의견의 문제라는 것을.
눈을 가리고 살았고 이 정부의 범죄를 알지 못한다면 11월 5일을 아무렇지 않게 지나가십시오.
하지만 내가 보고 있는 것을 당신도 보고, 내가 느끼는 것을 당신도 느끼고, 내가 원하는 것을 당신도 원한다면
내 옆에 서주십시오. 오늘밤부터 1년 후 의사당 앞에서.
그리고 함께 11월 5일을 절대로 영원히 잊지 못하게 해줍시다.
Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation,
Words will always retain their power, words offer the means for meaning
and, for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth and the truth is there
is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?
Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression.
And where once you had the freedom to object for think and speak as you saw fit.
You now have censors and surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting submission
How did this happen? Who's to blame?
Certainly there are those who are more responsible than others and they will be held accountable.
But again, truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty you need only look into a mirror.
I know why you did it.
I know you were afraid.
Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease.
There were a myriad of problems which conspired for corrupt your reason and rob of your common sense.
Fear got the best of you and in your panic, you turned to the now high chancellor Adam sutler.
He promised you order, he promised you peace and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.
Last night, I sought to end that silence.
Last night, I destroyed the old Bailey for remind this country of what it has forgotten.
More that 400 years ago, a great citizen wished to imbed the 5th of November forever in our memory.
His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice and freedom are mor than words.
They are perspectives.
So if you've seen nothing if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you
then I would suggest that you allow the 5th of November to pass unmarked
But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek
then I ask you to stand beside me, one year from tonight outside the gates of parliament
And together, we shall give them a 5th of November that shall never, ever be forgot
